A 33-year-old man was arrested at Miami International Airport after allegedly telling an airline agent that he had a b*mb in his bag while boarding a flight to Cuba.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Yoel Guevara-Crespo was boarding American Airlines flight AA1319 to Camaguey, Cuba, around 11:45 a.m. Monday.
During standard security questions, the ticket counter agent asked whether he was carrying lithium batteries or incendiary devices. Guevara-Crespo allegedly replied: “No, but I have a b*mb.”
The agent immediately told him he could not fly and contacted her supervisor. The man then said he was “joking.”
Deputies responded to the gate and took Guevara-Crespo into custody without incident. A K9 searched his luggage and found no explosives or other suspicious items.
The airline was subsequently allowed to resume normal operations.
Authorities said Guevara-Crespo later gave a full confession during an interview at the airport station. He was arrested and taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
