FAA proposes new flight restrictions near Trump’s Palm Beach airport

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is proposing new flight restrictions around President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, citing security concerns.

Under the proposal, aircraft would be restricted within a 1-nautical-mile radius of the residence and up to 2,000 feet above the ground.

The request came from the U.S. Secret Service, which cited adverse threat intelligence and concerns over unauthorized aircraft and drones.

The Secret Service said the restrictions would “greatly increase” its ability to mitigate persistent risks posed by unauthorized aircraft and unmanned aircraft systems.

The Mar-a-Lago property is located close to Palm Beach International Airport, meaning the proposed restrictions could affect aircraft operating in the area.

The FAA’s move highlights the growing security challenges around high-profile presidential locations, particularly with the increasing use of drones.
