Takeoff Aborted in Helsinki: Engine Trouble and Damaged Tyre Leave Air Serbia Jet Stranded

On Mar 28th 2026, an Air Serbia Airbus A319-100, registration YU-APD, operating flight JU-4125 from Helsinki to Belgrade, was forced to reject takeoff after the crew detected an engine problem during the departure roll.

The aircraft was accelerating on runway 22R when the pilots reported an issue with one of the engines, identified as a V2524. Acting swiftly, the crew aborted the takeoff and brought the aircraft to a stop on the runway.

Following the rejected takeoff, the crew requested emergency services to inspect the aircraft, particularly concerned about possible brake overheating. Responders arriving at the scene identified damage to one of the nose gear tyres and debris scattered along the runway, indicating the severity of the event.

The aircraft was subsequently towed off the runway, allowing airport operations to resume. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

As of more than 12 hours after the incident, the aircraft remained grounded in Helsinki undergoing inspection and maintenance.

To accommodate affected passengers, a replacement Airbus A319-100, registration YU-APA, was dispatched from Belgrade and continued the journey.

The incident caps a challenging sequence for the aircraft, which had already diverted to Helsinki the previous day while operating a separate flight due to a runway closure in St. Petersburg. The latest event now leaves the aircraft under technical review as investigators and engineers work to determine the exact cause of the engine issue and associated damage.
