Frontier Airlines is temporarily exiting another U.S. market as the ultra-low-cost carrier continues reshaping its route network in response to rising operating costs and changing travel demand.

The airline has confirmed it will suspend its only route from Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) to Denver International Airport (DEN), with the final flight scheduled for August 17. Frontier described the move as a seasonal pause, adding that it is reviewing its future network plans and expects to provide more details in the coming months.

Frontier has served Knoxville since 2011, and airport officials say they have been assured the airline intends to return in the future. Travelers booked on flights after the suspension date will be eligible for refunds in accordance with Frontier’s policy.

The announcement comes as Frontier continues trimming underperforming routes across its network after higher fuel costs and intense competition placed additional pressure on low-cost carriers. Earlier this year, the airline also exited markets such as Spokane and Sarasota, while reducing service from major hubs including Denver and Orlando.

Despite Frontier’s departure, Knoxville travelers will still have nonstop options to Denver through United Airlines and Allegiant Air. Meanwhile, McGhee Tyson Airport continues to experience strong growth, welcoming a record 3.6 million passengers in 2025, with Southwest Airlines expanding service after entering the market earlier this year.
