More details have now emerged regarding the dramatic low-pass incident involving a Boeing 777-200LR Mammoth Freighter that was widely shared across social media earlier this week.
The aircraft, registered N705DN, performed an extremely low pass over Horseshoe Bay Resort Jet Center Airport in Texas on June 24, with video footage and ADS-B data appearing to show the aircraft passing just feet above the runway during the maneuver. The incident quickly drew attention across the aviation community, with many believing the aircraft was already operating for Qatar Airways Cargo due to its distinctive livery.
However, Mammoth Freighters has now issued an important clarification regarding the aircraft’s ownership and operation.
According to the company, Mammoth Freighters was not the owner of the aircraft and had no operational control over it at the time of the maneuver. The company confirmed that the aircraft is currently owned and operated by Jetran LLC, which remains responsible for the aircraft as it completes final preparations before delivery to Qatar Airways Cargo.
Mammoth also stressed that although the aircraft is painted in Qatar Airways Cargo colors, it has not yet been delivered to the airline. It is not registered to Qatar Airways, was not being operated by Qatar Airways, and the pilots conducting the flight were not Qatar Airways flight crew.
The aircraft itself has an interesting history. Originally built as a Boeing 777-200LR for Delta Air Lines, it was later converted into a dedicated freighter by Mammoth Freighters. Once delivery is completed, it is expected to join Qatar Airways Cargo’s growing fleet.
The clarification helps separate the aircraft’s appearance from its actual ownership and operational responsibility, correcting widespread assumptions that circulated after the incident video went viral.
At this time, no official investigation or findings regarding the low-pass maneuver have been announced.
