American Airlines Highlights Unsung Aviation Workers On National AMT Day

American Airlines is highlighting some unsung heroes of the aviation industry.

National Aviation Maintenance Technicians (AMT) Day is celebrated annually on May 24. This year, American Airlines is celebrating their AMTs by showcasing their dedicated team of workers.

Most customers rarely ever see AMTs when they fly, but these personnel are what keep the airlines safely in the air.

Over 9,000 AMTs are employed by American Airlines globally. In Tulsa, thousands of AMTs care for roughly 400 aircrafts each year across 330 acres, including the 3.3 million square feet of hangar space at Tulsa International Airport.

In addition to celebrating the thousands of AMTs at American, the airline is also highlighting the birthday of Charles E. Taylor, the mechanic for the Wright Brothers.

“Taylor was the Wright brothers’ mechanic. Though the industry has advanced tremendously since Charles Taylor first powered the Wright Flyer, his unwavering commitment to safety and excellence will always be foundational to the craft,” said American Airlines.
