On June 9, 2026, Air Canada officially launched the commercial service of its first Airbus A321XLR, marking a major step forward in the airline’s fleet modernization and long-haul ambitions.
The historic inaugural flight, AC413, carried 182 passengers from Montréal to Toronto, giving travelers their first experience aboard Air Canada’s next-generation “Glowing Hearted” cabin. The aircraft introduces premium features never before seen on a Canadian airline’s single-aisle jet, including luxurious lie-flat business class seats, enhanced comfort, and advanced connectivity.
This feature is a Canadian first. Passengers in Air Canada Signature Class can enjoy 14 lie-flat seats, while 168 Economy seats provide enhanced comfort for everyone.
The Airbus A321XLR is a game-changing aircraft capable of flying longer distances with significantly improved fuel efficiency. Air Canada says the aircraft can reduce fuel burn per seat by around 30% compared with previous-generation aircraft and can operate with up to 50% neat Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
The A321XLR will soon begin international operations, with its first overseas flight scheduled for June 15, 2026, connecting Montréal with Toulouse, France. The aircraft will enable Air Canada to open new routes and operate transatlantic services more efficiently.
Air Canada has ordered 30 Airbus A321XLR aircraft as part of its strategy to build one of the most capable and sustainable fleets in the world.
