Passengers screamed as a Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 was forced to turn back to Mashhad shortly after takeoff following a reported tyre failure and engine damage.
The aircraft was operating a flight from Mashhad to Kermanshah when the crew detected a serious technical problem. Reports indicate that a tyre came off one of the aircraft’s wheels, followed by reported engine damage.
Videos circulating on social media appear to show the aircraft experiencing severe shaking and violent vibrations. Inside the cabin, overhead compartments reportedly opened, while personal belongings fell onto seats and into the aisle. Some passengers were reportedly struck by falling items.
The crew abandoned the flight and returned to Mashhad Airport, where emergency services were waiting. The Boeing 737 landed safely, and initial reports indicated that no injuries were reported among passengers or crew.
Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation has reportedly launched an investigation. Authorities are expected to examine the aircraft to determine what caused the tyre failure, whether it contributed to the reported engine damage, and why the aircraft experienced such intense vibration.
The investigation will also look into reports of cabin interior components opening or becoming detached during the incident.
