A Delta Air Lines passenger has shared a detailed firsthand account of upgrading from economy to Delta One on a flight from New York (JFK) to Paris, saying the $1,500 same-day upgrade transformed the entire travel experience and was “worth every penny.”
Originally booked in an economy seat near the rear of the aircraft, the traveler accepted Delta’s last-minute upgrade offer at check-in. The premium experience began on the ground with exclusive Delta One check-in, expedited security screening, and access to the airline’s premium Delta One Lounge at JFK Terminal 4.
The passenger praised the lounge’s spacious design, quiet atmosphere, restaurant-quality dining options, showers, and wellness facilities, describing it as a relaxing start to the journey compared with the crowded airport experience many travelers face.
On board, the lie-flat Delta One seat, increased personal space, and premium dining—including Chef Mashama Bailey’s beef short rib—helped turn the overnight transatlantic flight into a comfortable and restful journey. Despite a two-hour departure delay, the passenger said they slept through much of the flight and arrived in Paris refreshed.
Instead of needing time to recover after landing, the traveler headed straight into the city to enjoy the day, calling that the biggest benefit of the upgrade. While acknowledging that $1,500 is a significant expense, the passenger concluded that the improved airport experience, quality sleep, and ability to maximize a short three-night trip made the upgrade a worthwhile investment—and said they would “absolutely do it again.”
