Hawaiian Airlines unveiled Thursday the first of three aircraft liveries to celebrate Disney’s live-action “Moana,” set to arrive in theaters July 10.
The first design is featured on an Airbus A321neo (N227HA), an aircraft that connects Hawaiʻi to the U.S. West Coast and the Cook Islands.
Hawaiian said the remaining two designs will appear in July on an A330 — the airline’s flagship transpacific aircraft — and on a Boeing 717 used for interisland flights.
The liveries include the message, “Voyage beyond the reef,” and feature characters from the film, including Maui as a hawk with his fishhook and the coconut-armored Kakamora catching rides in the sea breeze. Moana’s animal friends Heihei and Pua also appear in the designs.
The design is also reflected in the aircraft’s interior with characters appearing on the overhead luggage bins.
“Voyaging is at the heart of who we are as the airline of Hawaiʻi, a place grounded in a legacy that began with navigators who crossed the Pacific using traditional wayfinding techniques,” said Alisa Onishi, managing director of Hawaiʻi marketing at Hawaiian Airlines. “We’re proud to continue carrying that spirit forward and bring Moana’s journey to life once again as we connect our island home to the world.”
The three live-action “Moana” aircraft follow earlier liveries celebrating the animated films “Moana” and “Moana 2.”
Disney’s live-action “Moana” stars Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui.
