Amazon has paused operations with 21 Air after its Amazon-branded Boeing 767 freighter overran the runway at Miami International Airport, killing five people and injuring five others.
The September 6 Flight 7598 had arrived from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when the 32-year-old Boeing 767-300 freighter ran off the runway and struck multiple vehicles.
Now, investigators are examining startling details from the aircraft’s flight data.
Preliminary recorder evidence reportedly showed the pilots raising concerns about the aircraft’s speed during the landing. Investigators also said there was no indication that the speed brakes or thrust reversers were deployed before the aircraft traveled about 1,300 feet beyond the runway.
Amazon says it has temporarily stopped operations with 21 Air while supporting the NTSB investigation and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
21 Air says it remains confident in its safety policies, procedures and training and is cooperating fully with investigators.
The NTSB has not yet determined the probable cause, meaning crucial questions about exactly what went wrong during those final moments remain unanswered.
