“Abort, Abort” Call Before Crash: NTSB Finds No Immediate Engine Failure In Fatal Brooklyn Park Plane Crash That Killed ND Rep. Liz Conmy

The NTSB has released early findings from the devastating April 25 plane crash near Crystal Airport in Minnesota that killed North Dakota Representative Liz Conmy and pilot Joseph Cass.

According to investigators, the single-engine aircraft had just departed when the pilot transmitted an urgent “abort, abort” radio call moments after takeoff. Witnesses on the ground reported the plane appeared dangerously low, struggled to gain altitude, and banked sharply left before descending into a residential area in Brooklyn Park.

The aircraft crashed near homes and erupted into flames, prompting a massive emergency response. Fortunately, no one on the ground was injured.

Preliminary inspections revealed no immediate evidence of engine failure, fuel contamination, or major mechanical malfunction, raising further questions about what caused the sudden loss of control. Investigators are now examining aircraft systems, maintenance records, weather conditions, and pilot communications as part of the ongoing investigation.

The tragic accident sent shockwaves through North Dakota and the aviation community, as tributes continue to pour in for Rep. Conmy, who was widely respected for her public service and dedication to her community.
