This multi-colored look is actually a temporary, functional coating made of protective anti-corrosion primers and exposed composite panels rather than a final commercial paint job.
Aircraft manufacturers use these distinctive green, yellow, and grey primer layers during intensive developmental and certification test flights. The final, pristine airline livery is intentionally delayed until right before official delivery to ensure the brand identity does not suffer wear and tear during rigorous test programs. Project Sunrise is designed to completely eliminate the traditional necessity of stopping over in Asia or the Middle East by connecting Sydney and Melbourne directly to London and New York. These journeys will officially become the longest non-stop commercial flights in the world, utilizing specially modified Airbus A350-1000 Ultra Long Range aircraft capable of airborne durations lasting up to twenty-two hours.
To make these unprecedented flight times viable for travelers, the aircraft features a complete revolution in passenger cabin design focused heavily on health and space. Qantas has configured the jet to carry only 238 passengers, which is significantly fewer than the three hundred or more travelers typically squeezed onto a standard aircraft of this size, thereby maximizing personal space for everyone on board.
A world-first dedicated Wellbeing Zone is built into the aircraft between the Economy and Premium Economy cabins, providing a physical space where passengers can stand up, stretch, follow guided movements on screens, and access refreshments to improve circulation.
For those in the premium cabins, the engineering achievements extend to fully enclosed private First Class suites complete with a separate flat bed and reclining armchair, alongside advanced circadian cabin lighting designed to mimic destination time zones and scientifically mitigate the effects of jet lag.
