Southwest Airlines is expanding its network once again by introducing 19 new nonstop routes for Spring 2027 as part of its strategy to strengthen service in some of its largest focus cities. Rather than entering new airports, the Dallas-based carrier is focusing on increasing connectivity where it already has a strong presence, particularly in leisure and business travel markets.

The expansion will primarily benefit Las Vegas, Orlando, Nashville, Baltimore, Austin and San Diego, with several new nonstop connections beginning in March 2027. Las Vegas will see service to ten additional destinations, giving Southwest its highest-ever number of daily departures from the city, while Orlando is also set to receive its largest schedule in the airline’s history with more than 200 daily departures. Along with the new routes, Southwest is increasing frequencies on dozens of existing routes to provide travelers with more departure options throughout the day.

The announcement reflects Southwest’s broader transformation strategy as it works to improve profitability and compete more aggressively with other major U.S. airlines. Over the past year, the airline has introduced assigned seating, premium seating options, baggage fees and other operational changes while continuing to invest in network growth. Company executives say the latest expansion is designed to meet growing demand in key markets and reinforce Southwest’s long-term commitment to its largest operating bases.
