Mooney M20J Crash During Landing At Albuquerque Double Eagle Airport Leaves Pilot Seriously Injured | May 31, 2026

A privately operated Mooney M20J aircraft, registration N555ED, crashed while landing at Albuquerque-Double Eagle II Airport (KAEG), New Mexico, on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at approximately 3:18 PM local time.

According to early reports, the aircraft went down under unknown circumstances during the landing phase of flight. Emergency responders from the Albuquerque Police Department, Albuquerque Fire Rescue, and Bernalillo County Fire Rescue rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the crash near the airport around 3:30 PM.

First responders located the sole occupant — identified as a female pilot — suffering from serious injuries, including an extremity fracture and multiple lacerations. She was transported to a local hospital for urgent medical treatment. Despite the substantial damage to the aircraft, there were no fatalities reported.

The aircraft involved was a Mooney M20J, a high-performance single-engine aircraft commonly used in private aviation. The flight had reportedly departed from and was returning to Albuquerque-Double Eagle II Airport, suggesting it may have been conducting a local flight before the accident occurred.

Authorities confirmed that the New Mexico State Police will lead the investigation in coordination with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to determine what caused the crash. At this stage, information remains preliminary and based largely on unofficial and local news sources.
