NINE FLIGHTS SQUAWK 7700 OVER GATWICK AMID FUEL CONCERNS AFTER RUNWAY CLOSURE

At least nine flights squawked the emergency code 7700 over southern England early Wednesday as fuel levels became a concern during a temporary runway closure at London Gatwick Airport.

The runway was closed for a short period after British Airways Flight BA2673, arriving from Palma de Mallorca, reported a technical issue. The aircraft landed safely and was attended by airport rescue and fire services as a precaution.

Flight tracking data showed several inbound aircraft entering holding patterns while awaiting landing clearance. As the disruption continued, multiple flights declared emergencies before diverting to alternate airports.

A total of 14 flights were diverted to London Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, Birmingham and Bristol. The affected services had originated from destinations including Tenerife, Valencia, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Rhodes, Athens, Bari, Rome and Agadir.

Gatwick Airport said the runway closure was brief and that the majority of diverted flights later returned to Gatwick. British Airways confirmed BA2673 landed safely and passengers disembarked normally following reports of a technical fault.
