The widow of a 53-year-old man killed when an Amazon cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport has filed the first wrongful death lawsuit following Sunday’s devastating crash.

Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo was killed when Amazon Air Flight 7598 landed at Miami International Airport, overran Runway 30 and struck vehicles on and near airport property. Naranjo was inside a van that was hit during the accident.

His widow, Yaraisi Santiso Morejon, filed the lawsuit in Miami-Dade County, naming Amazon Inc., Amazon Air Cargo, 21 Air LLC, other companies involved in operating the aircraft, the aircraft’s lessors, and the two pilots as defendants.

The complaint alleges that multiple failures contributed to the tragedy, including alleged pilot error, inadequate training and the use of a 32-year-old aircraft.

Attorneys representing Naranjo’s family argue that the crash was not simply a “freak accident,” but a foreseeable and preventable disaster.

The lawsuit alleges that failures occurred across multiple levels — from the operation and training of the flight crew to the companies responsible for putting the aircraft into service and the systems intended to prevent such an accident.

The case is now expected to bring increased scrutiny as investigators continue examining exactly why Flight 7598 overran the runway and whether any preventable factors contributed to the loss of life.

For Naranjo’s family, however, the legal fight has already begun — with his widow seeking answers, accountability and justice.

The lawsuit contains allegations that have not yet been proven in court. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
