SHOCK IN TENERIFE: Training Plane Crashes Onto Busy Road After Engine Failure, Tourists Run for Safety
Date of Incident: June 4, 2026
A dramatic aviation incident unfolded in Tenerife, Spain, when a small training aircraft crashed onto a busy road just moments after takeoff, sending terrified tourists and residents scrambling for cover.
The aircraft, a Reims-Cessna F172M Skyhawk operated by Blue Team Flight School and registered as EC-NME, reportedly suffered an engine failure shortly after departure. In a desperate attempt to avoid a catastrophe, the pilot carried out an emergency landing on a road near the popular Amarilla Golf resort. During the landing, the aircraft struck a lamppost and nearby trees before coming to a halt in the middle of the street.
Images from the scene showed the aircraft heavily damaged, with its nose crushed and wings severely impacted. Debris was scattered across the roadway as emergency crews rushed to secure the area. Firefighters covered the crash site with foam to prevent spilled fuel from igniting.
Several eyewitnesses described moments of panic as the aircraft descended toward the road. One tourist said they had to run to avoid the plane as it crashed through roadside obstacles before stopping just short of nearby pedestrians.
Remarkably, no pedestrians or motorists were injured. The pilot and co-pilot managed to exit the aircraft on their own and were taken to hospital for precautionary medical evaluations. Authorities have launched an investigation into the reported engine failure that forced the emergency landing.
