Storm Chaos At IGI: Three Air India Planes Damaged As Winds Dislodge Ground Equipment

Ground Equipment Slams Into 3 Air India Aircraft During Sudden Weather Blast.

A sudden spell of powerful winds and heavy rain caused dramatic scenes at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday evening (7-Jun-2026), when ground support equipment was blown across the apron and struck three parked Air India aircraft.

One widely shared video shows a passenger boarding stepladder being pushed by strong gusts near Terminal 2 before colliding with an Air India aircraft parked at Bay 206. Airport authorities later confirmed that ground equipment belonging to Air India Engineering and IndiGo impacted three Air India narrowbody aircraft during the unexpected weather event.

The damaged aircraft have been temporarily taken out of service for inspection and repairs. According to airline sources, two aircraft are expected to return to service soon, while the third may require more extensive repairs.

Notably, airport officials stated that no prior storm or severe weather warning had been issued before conditions rapidly deteriorated. While several aircraft and airport operations were affected, no injuries were reported.
