A Southwest Airlines flight attendant was found dead near a dumpster after apparently falling from the 24th floor of the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, Hawaii, while on a layover, according to reports.
Jenny Lupton, 50, from Oklahoma, had worked as a Southwest flight attendant for 23 years. Her body was discovered by a hotel employee early Thursday morning, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
Lupton’s family reportedly learned about her death nearly 24 hours after her body was found. Her sister, Tresa Lupton, said the family does not believe Jenny died by suicide and is seeking answers about what happened.
“We strongly believe that she didn’t do this intentionally,” her sister said, raising the possibility of an accident or that someone else may have been involved.
The mother of a 15-year-old son had reportedly spent part of her layover enjoying Hawaii with a fellow flight attendant friend. She had also recently gotten a tattoo and was planning to have it completed with a hibiscus design honoring her late father.
Family members described Lupton as someone who loved Hawaii, gardening, travel and spending time with those closest to her. Her niece Hannah, who followed in her aunt’s footsteps and became a flight attendant, remembered her as “the light of every party.”
“She was unforgettable. She was loved. She was the life of the party,” Hannah wrote in a tribute.
Lupton’s family and friends are now left with questions as the investigation continues.
“She was truly a goddess of the sky,” her friend Mel Haggard said.
The circumstances surrounding the fall have not been fully established, and authorities have not indicated that foul play occurred.
