A Sita Air aircraft suffered a landing-gear problem at Juphal Airport in Dolpa, Nepal, on Thursday morning after its right main landing-gear tyre came off during touchdown.
The aircraft, which had flown from Nepalgunj Airport to Juphal, was carrying 16 people — 13 passengers and three crew members.
According to Dolpa police, the incident occurred at around 8:25 a.m. All passengers and crew members were reported safe, with no injuries.
Among the passengers were seven foreign nationals from France, Germany and Belgium, along with six Nepali citizens.
Following the incident, the aircraft came to a halt on the runway and remains stranded pending a technical inspection. Video footage circulating on social media reportedly shows the detached wheel rolling away from the aircraft after landing.
Authorities are expected to examine the landing gear, tyre and associated components to determine what caused the wheel to separate during the landing.
The incident comes as Nepal’s aviation sector continues to face scrutiny over safety, particularly given the challenging mountainous terrain in which many domestic flights operate.
Fortunately, this incident resulted in no casualties or reported injuries. Further details are expected after the technical investigation.
