On a transatlantic flight, a Colombian influencer’s prank turned into a year-long airline ban.
Yeferson Cossio, who has a combined 32 million followers on TikTok and Instagram, activated a stink bomb aboard Avianca Flight AV46 from Bogotá to Madrid on March 11.
The device released a foul odor throughout the cabin while the Boeing 787 was flying over the Atlantic, inconveniencing passengers and crew.
The incident has now resulted in a significant consequence: Avianca has banned Cossio from using its services until August 21, 2027.
According to Avianca, Cossio agreed to refrain from flying with the airline for one year and apologized to both the carrier and the crew. The airline said the apologies were accepted as part of a restorative process.
What may have been intended as a prank for social media instead ended with a major airline restriction and disruption for everyone onboard.
The incident is another reminder that stunts involving aircraft cabins can have serious consequences, particularly when they affect passengers, crew and flight operations.
