A routine training sortie turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when an Indian Air Force AN-32 transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the Air Force Station in Jorhat, Assam, India on Saturday morning. The aircraft was on a routine mission when it met with the accident, leading to the loss of five brave air warriors.
The personnel who lost their lives in the crash were:
Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat, Agniveervayu Danish Alam
The co-pilot survived the crash and was rescued with injuries. He is currently undergoing medical treatment.
According to initial reports, the AN-32 encountered difficulties during its approach to the airbase and crashed during the landing phase. The aircraft caught fire after the accident, and emergency response teams rushed to the scene. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown, and the Indian Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine what went wrong.
The AN-32, a rugged twin-engine military transport aircraft, has been a crucial part of the Indian Air Force’s fleet for decades, especially in challenging environments such as high-altitude regions and remote areas of Northeast India.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed deep condolences over the loss, paying tribute to the courage and dedication of the air warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
