A tragic business jet accident occurred late on June 16, 2026, when a NetJets-operated Cessna 680 Citation Latitude, registration N523QS, crashed near Loop 20 and Saunders Street in Laredo, Texas, during an emergency diversion.

The aircraft had departed from San José del Cabo International Airport (SJD) in Baja California Sur, Mexico, and was en route to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) when the crew reportedly declared an emergency and diverted to Laredo International Airport (LRD).

According to initial reports, the aircraft crashed at approximately 9:59 PM local time near the intersection of Loop 20, Saunders Street, and Clark Boulevard during the final phase of its approach to Laredo. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and were able to rescue five of the six people on board. Tragically, one occupant lost their life in the accident.

Authorities confirmed that there were six persons on board the aircraft. The five survivors were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. Thanks to the rapid response of firefighters, police officers, and rescue crews, those survivors were successfully evacuated from the wreckage.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported on the ground despite the aircraft coming down near a busy roadway. As a precaution, both northbound and southbound lanes of Loop 20 near Saunders Street and Clark Boulevard were closed while emergency operations and investigations continued.

Early aviation reports identify the aircraft as a Cessna Citation Latitude (C68A), registration N523QS, reportedly operating as part of the NetJets fleet. Flight tracking data indicates the aircraft had been cruising at approximately 41,000 feet and reached speeds near 491 mph before diverting from its original route between Mexico and Austin. The reason for the diversion has not yet been disclosed.
