A heartbreaking aviation tragedy has claimed the lives of two brothers after their small aircraft crashed in a cornfield near Morrison Industrial Park in Warren County, Tennessee, on Wednesday afternoon, June 17, 2026.

According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received reports of the crash at approximately 12:19 p.m. Deputies and emergency responders arrived at the scene and located the wreckage in a cornfield near Doyle Frazier Road. Tragically, both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

While official identification has not yet been released pending notification procedures and coordination with investigative authorities, family members confirmed that the victims were brothers from the Viola community.

Preliminary findings indicate the aircraft had departed from a private airstrip in Viola shortly before the accident. Investigators believe the plane struck a tree moments after takeoff, causing significant damage to the aircraft. The pilot then attempted to reach Warren County Memorial Airport, but the aircraft was unable to make it safely back and ultimately crashed.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for their family, friends, and the entire Viola community, as well as all of the local pilots who knew the brothers personally,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Adding to the tragic circumstances, Warren County Commissioner Blaine Wilcher witnessed the accident. He told local media that he was eating lunch outdoors when he heard the aircraft’s engine running inconsistently. Wilcher observed the plane repeatedly attempting to nose down and pull up before disappearing behind a tree line.

Moments later, he heard and felt a powerful “thud” and immediately called 911 to report the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has responded to the scene and is leading the investigation. Officials say they are currently gathering information and will provide updates as more details become available.

According to NTSB data, this marks the sixth airplane crash in Tennessee during 2026 and the seventh aviation accident overall in the state this year, including one helicopter accident.

As investigators work to determine the exact cause of the crash, the Tennessee aviation community is mourning the loss of two brothers whose lives ended in a devastating accident shortly after takeoff.
