On Feb 10th, 2026, a StarSky Fokker 50, registration 6O-YAS, was forced into a dramatic conclusion after returning to Mogadishu, Somalia, shortly after departure.
The aircraft had taken off for Galkayo, Puntland, with 55 people on board when the crew encountered a technical problem during the climb-out. As a precaution, the pilots decided to abort the flight and return to Mogadishu for an emergency landing.
The landing itself was completed, but during the rollout, the crew lost control of the aircraft. The turboprop veered off the runway, continued beyond the airport boundary, and went down a cliff, ultimately coming to rest at sea level on the beach below.
Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed that the aircraft sustained substantial damage, but remarkably, no injuries were reported among passengers or crew. All occupants were able to evacuate safely despite the aircraft’s precarious final position near the shoreline.
The CAA stated that the return had been prompted by a technical malfunction, and an investigation has been launched to determine both the cause of the in-flight issue and the subsequent loss of control during the landing roll.
