Mid-Air Illness at 39,000 Feet: Ryanair 737 Continues Safely After First Officer Falls Ill

On Feb 6th, 2026, a Malta Air Boeing 737-800 operating on behalf of Ryanair, registration 9H-QFB, was en route as flight FR-3202 from Manchester, United Kingdom, to Rzeszów, Poland, when an unexpected medical event unfolded in the cockpit.

While cruising at FL390 over Poland, the first officer became ill, vomited, and was unable to continue performing operational duties. The captain immediately assumed full control of the aircraft. After assessing the situation, the crew chose not to declare an emergency and continued the flight to its planned destination.

According to Poland’s accident investigation authority PKBWL, the remainder of the flight—including descent, approach, and landing—was completed without further incident. The aircraft landed safely in Rzeszów, and no additional complications were reported.

Despite the uneventful conclusion, the event was classified as a serious incident and has been formally taken up for investigation by PKBWL, reflecting the importance placed on cockpit health and crew resource management during critical phases of flight.

Following the arrival, the aircraft was delayed on the ground for approximately three hours before departing on its next scheduled sector.
