On Feb 8th, 2026, a T’way Air Boeing 737-800, registration HL8564, operating flight TW-687 from Jeju, South Korea, to Taipei, Taiwan, experienced an unusual landing incident when a right outboard wheel separated from the aircraft during the landing roll on runway 06L.
The separation occurred after touchdown as the aircraft was decelerating. Despite the loss of the wheel, the crew maintained control and the aircraft completed its rollout without further difficulty, then taxied safely to the apron under its own power. There were no reports of injuries to passengers or crew.
Following the event, Taipei’s runway 06L was closed to allow airport authorities to carry out a detailed runway inspection. Multiple pieces of debris, believed to be components from the wheel assembly, were recovered before the runway was cleared and reopened.
As a precaution, the aircraft was grounded in Taipei, where it remained approximately 14 hours after landing while inspections and maintenance actions were undertaken. The incident highlights the robustness of modern landing gear systems and crew procedures, allowing a potentially serious mechanical failure to be managed safely on the ground without escalation.
