On Feb 2nd, 2026, a FedEx Federal Express Airbus A300-600 freighter, registration N748FD, operating flight FX-1338 from Norfolk, VA to Memphis, TN (USA), was forced to return shortly after departure following an engine malfunction.
The aircraft had just departed Norfolk’s runway 23 and was climbing out when the crew requested to level off at 3,000 feet, advising air traffic control of a problem with one of the aircraft’s Pratt & Whitney PW4158 engines. As the situation developed, the crew reported they were effectively operating on a single engine, declared an emergency, and initiated a return to the departure airport.
About 25 minutes after takeoff, the A300 landed safely back on runway 23 at Norfolk. There were no reports of injuries, and the landing was completed without further incident.
Following the event, the aircraft remained on the ground in Norfolk, where it was still parked approximately 14 hours after landing, as maintenance personnel assessed the engine issue.
