High-Speed Emergency Landing After Flap Warning Diverts Turkish Airlines 737 Into Holding Pattern

On Jan 31st, 2026, a Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-800 performed an emergency landing at Chisinau after flight crews detected an abnormal flap indication during the final stages of approach.

The aircraft, registered TC-JVF, was operating flight TK-269 from Istanbul (Turkey) to Chisinau (Moldova). While on final approach to runway 09, the crew aborted the approach at approximately 2,600 feet, initiating a go-around after receiving a flaps indication.

Following the go-around, the aircraft entered a holding pattern while the crew ran the appropriate checklists. An emergency was declared, and preparations were made for a precautionary landing. The Boeing 737 subsequently returned for a safe landing on runway 09, touching down at a higher than normal speed of about 175 knots over ground, consistent with flap-related limitations.

After technical checks on the ground, the aircraft was able to depart on the return flight with a delay of around 2 hours and 40 minutes. It remained overnight in Istanbul and returned to active service approximately 18 hours after landing back in Istanbul.
