On Jan 24th 2026, a Singapore Airlines Airbus A350-900 experienced a serious incident during its arrival into Singapore after a late go-around resulted in the aircraft’s tail contacting the runway surface.
The widebody jet, registered 9V-SHW, was operating flight SQ-917 from Manila to Singapore and was on very short final approach to runway 02L when the crew initiated a go-around from a very low height. During the maneuver, the tail of the aircraft struck the runway, causing a tail strike.
After the contact, the crew climbed the aircraft to 4,000 feet and repositioned for another approach. The aircraft subsequently landed safely on runway 02C about 25 minutes later, with no further complications reported.
Following the incident, the aircraft remained grounded in Singapore for inspection and assessment. About 53 hours after landing, the A350 was still on the ground, indicating that detailed technical checks were underway to determine the extent of the damage and the steps required before the aircraft can return to service.
