Ethiopian Airlines finalized an order for nine additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners on January 20, 2026. This agreement follows and complements a previous commitment for 11 Boeing 737 MAX jets, bringing the airline’s latest commitments to a total of 20 Boeing aircraft.

The new 787-9 jets are intended to grow the airline’s international network, which currently serves 145 global destinations.
Deliveries for these nine 787-9 aircraft are planned for between 2031 and 2033.

This order was finalized in December 2025 and officially announced today, January 20, 2026, as part of the airline’s “Vision 2035” strategy for fleet modernization and sustainable aviation.
Ethiopian Airlines remains the largest operator of the 787 Dreamliner in Africa.
