A United Airlines Airbus A320-200 declared an in-flight emergency on Jan 18th, 2026, after the flight crew received a hydraulic system indication during the descent into Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The aircraft, registered N1902U and operating flight UA-2622 from Chicago O’Hare to Grand Rapids, was descending through approximately 10,000 feet when the crew alerted air traffic control that they were experiencing a hydraulic issue that could potentially affect the landing gear system. Although cockpit indications confirmed that the landing gear was down and locked, the crew chose to declare an emergency as a precaution.
Emergency services were placed on standby as the aircraft continued its approach. The A320 landed safely on runway 26L about 11 minutes after the emergency declaration and was able to vacate the runway under its own power before taxiing to the apron.
After a brief inspection and assessment on the ground, the aircraft was cleared to continue operations. It later departed on its return flight with a delay of approximately 80 minutes.
No injuries were reported, and United Airlines has not released further details on the cause of the hydraulic indication. The incident highlights standard crew procedures that prioritize safety even when backup systems indicate normal operation.
