Millionaire Welsh businessman among 3 killed in Swiss Alps plane crash

A British millionaire businessman was among three people killed when a Cirrus SR22T crashed into a mountain slope near Leukerbad in Switzerland on September 15.

The aircraft had departed Lugano and stopped at Sion before continuing toward Buochs in central Switzerland. At around 4 p.m., the single-engine plane struck a northern slope in the Fluhalp area for reasons that remain unknown. Witnesses reported seeing heavy smoke from the crash site.

Emergency responders found all three occupants deceased.

One victim was identified as 55-year-old Owain Davies, managing director of Welsh engineering company Amcanu. Described by his company as a mentor, friend and familiar presence on the factory floor, Davies was reportedly on a flying trip when the crash occurred.

His son Aron said Davies had been his mentor throughout his life and in business.

Swiss authorities have not yet publicly identified the other two victims. An investigation is underway to determine what caused the aircraft to crash.
