A routine Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Tunisia turned into a terrifying ordeal when severe weather struck during the descent into Tunis-Carthage International Airport.

Passengers reportedly screamed as powerful turbulence rocked the aircraft while the crew made repeated attempts to land in stormy conditions.

Passenger Marina Maiskaya said the flight had been completely smooth until the descent began. She described the aircraft being “shaken violently” during each approach and claimed that on the third attempt, the plane “started to plummet.”

She was traveling with her mother and said she had never felt so afraid for her life.

After the repeated landing attempts, the aircraft abandoned the approach and diverted roughly 60 miles south to Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport.

Thankfully, the frightening ordeal ended safely.

The aircraft landed without a reported crash, and passengers were able to walk away from what had become an absolutely terrifying approach.

The incident is another reminder of just how quickly severe weather can transform an otherwise routine flight — and why pilots may repeatedly abandon an approach rather than risk landing in dangerous conditions.

Thankfully, everyone made it safely to the ground.
