LATAM Boeing 767 Disabled on Runway at Atlanta After Multiple Tire Failures

Jan 6th 2026 : A LATAM Chile Boeing 767-300 operating a long-haul flight from Lima, Peru, to Atlanta, Georgia, was disabled on the runway after suffering multiple tire failures during landing.

The aircraft, registered CC-CXF and operating flight LA2482, landed on Atlanta’s runway 26R but came to a stop on the runway with its main landing gear tires burst. According to the flight crew, the aircraft was unable to taxi after landing, and cockpit indications suggested that the right main landing gear may not have been fully down.

Emergency services responded immediately and initially reported that both right main landing gear tires had blown. Subsequent inspections by emergency crews determined that all main landing gear tires were burst. As a result, the aircraft was rendered immobile and remained on the runway until it was towed clear approximately one hour after landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the aircraft landed safely before the tires failed and stated that the incident is under investigation. LATAM Airlines reported that a technical issue led to the damage to the tires but did not provide further details.

Passengers described a violent landing sequence, reporting that the aircraft shook heavily during the rollout. Several overhead luggage bins reportedly opened, and one lavatory door detached from its hinges during the event. No injuries were reported.

As of about 16 hours after the incident, the Boeing 767 remains on the ground in Atlanta for inspections and repairs. LATAM cancelled the scheduled return flight as a result of the occurrence.

Airport operations experienced temporary disruption while the disabled aircraft was removed from the runway. Investigators are expected to review aircraft systems, landing gear indications, and runway conditions as part of the ongoing inquiry.
