A tragic aviation accident occurred in Ganderkesee, Lower Saxony, Germany, on Saturday, July 25, after a privately operated Tecnam P2010 TDI crashed into a residential home while attempting to land at Ganderkesee Airfield.
According to preliminary information, the aircraft, registered D-EYJK, took off from Ganderkesee Airfield at approximately 10:51 a.m. local time for what appeared to be a local circuit flight. Flight tracking data indicates that as the aircraft was returning for landing on Runway 26, another aircraft, a Robin R3000/160, was also approaching the same runway. Just as both aircraft were nearing the final approach, the Tecnam reportedly initiated a 360-degree turn, possibly to maintain separation or for reasons that remain unknown. During the maneuver, the aircraft rapidly lost altitude and crashed into the roof of a single-family home about 1.1 kilometers short of the runway threshold at approximately 10:55 a.m.
The impact destroyed the aircraft and sparked a major emergency response. Tragically, both occupants on board were killed. Fortunately, the house was unoccupied at the time of the crash, preventing an even greater tragedy. Authorities evacuated residents within a 100-meter radius as a precaution, while electricity to the surrounding street was temporarily shut off to ensure the safety of emergency crews. A crisis intervention team was also deployed to support witnesses and local residents affected by the incident.
Initial reports had suggested one person was confirmed dead while another was missing, but subsequent information indicates that both occupants of the aircraft lost their lives in the accident. No fatalities or injuries were reported on the ground.
Germany’s Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) has opened an official investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft, weather conditions, pilot actions, airfield traffic, maintenance records, and any available flight data to establish why the aircraft lost control during the approach.
The Tecnam P2010 TDI is a modern four-seat single-engine aircraft widely used for private flying and pilot training. At this stage, authorities have not identified any definitive cause, and all findings remain preliminary pending the outcome of the BFU investigation.
