Transavia France Boeing 737 Diverts to Lyon After Smoke Reported in Cockpit

Jan 5th 2026 : A Transavia France Boeing 737-800 operating flight TO8098 from Paris Orly to Sfax, Tunisia, was forced to divert to Lyon on January 5, 2026, after the flight crew reported smoke in the cockpit.

The aircraft, registered F-HTVY, had departed Paris Orly earlier that day and was cruising at flight level 390 (approximately 39,000 feet) when the issue occurred. At around 80 nautical miles west of Lyon, the crew made the decision to divert as a precaution, prioritizing the safety of passengers and crew.

The aircraft descended and landed safely on Lyon–Saint-Exupéry Airport’s runway 35L approximately 23 minutes after leaving cruising altitude. Airport emergency services were deployed and met the aircraft upon landing. According to airport authorities, the response was triggered by reports of smoke in the cockpit. Emergency crews subsequently inspected the aircraft on the ground.

Transavia France later confirmed that the diversion was due to a technical problem. As a result of the incident, the aircraft remained on the ground in Lyon and was still there around 22 hours after landing, as inspections and follow-up procedures continued.

Passengers were disembarked normally and transported to local hotels. The airline stated that affected travelers would continue their journey to Sfax the following day.

No injuries were reported, and the airline emphasized that the diversion was carried out in accordance with standard safety procedures.
