A routine transatlantic journey turned into a tense mid-air emergency after an allegedly intoxicated passenger forced seven flight attendants to physically restrain him aboard an Aer Lingus flight from Dublin, Ireland, to Seattle, USA.

According to a federal criminal complaint, the incident occurred on Friday, June 19, during the airline’s nearly 10-hour flight. Authorities allege that passenger James Bradley Noble became increasingly disruptive shortly after takeoff, exhibiting signs of intoxication, stumbling through the cabin, and harassing fellow passengers.

The complaint states that Noble first targeted the woman seated next to him by making disturbing gestures, including pretending to force pills into her mouth before spilling a soft drink on her. The passenger reported the incident to the cabin crew and was relocated to Business Class for her safety.

The situation escalated dramatically midway through the flight when Noble allegedly approached a flight attendant from behind in the mid-galley and aggressively wrapped his arms around them. Crew members managed to return him to his seat, but the disturbance continued.

Investigators say Noble violently shook the seat in front of him, forcing the airline to relocate additional passengers away from the area. He also allegedly threatened a flight attendant, saying, “I’m going to f*** you up,” prompting the pilots to be informed immediately.

With passenger safety becoming a growing concern, the crew cleared the surrounding rows and launched a coordinated effort to restrain Noble. According to court documents, it took approximately seven flight attendants using handcuffs and restraint straps to secure him after he resisted aggressively, flailing and struggling throughout the process.

Even after being restrained, Noble reportedly continued fighting against the restraints so violently that they began to fail. The struggle lasted for nearly two hours, forcing the cabin crew to suspend all inflight service while focusing entirely on maintaining safety. Flight attendants were also unable to perform many of their normal safety duties or take their required breaks.

The aircraft landed safely at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, where law enforcement officers boarded the aircraft and arrested Noble upon arrival.

He has since been charged in U.S. federal court with interference with flight crew members and attendants, a serious federal offense that carries significant penalties. Court records show his detention hearing is scheduled for June 30, with a preliminary hearing set for July 6.
