Qatar Airways A350 Performs Go-Around at Heathrow Due to Nose Gear Steering Issue

Jan 4th 2026 : A Qatar Airways long-haul flight from Doha to London Heathrow experienced a landing-related issue on January 4, 2026, prompting a precautionary go-around during its initial approach.

Flight QR109, operated by an Airbus A350-1000 registered A7-ANE, was on final approach to Heathrow’s runway 27R when the flight crew initiated a go-around at approximately 1,500 feet mean sea level. The maneuver was carried out after the crew identified a problem with the aircraft’s nose gear steering system.

Following the go-around, the aircraft repositioned for another approach, this time to runway 27L. The second approach was completed without further incident, and the aircraft landed safely around 15 minutes later.

After touchdown, the aircraft remained stopped on the runway for about 30 minutes while checks were carried out. It was subsequently towed off the runway, allowing normal airport operations to resume. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

The aircraft stayed on the ground at London Heathrow for approximately four hours before being cleared to operate the return flight to Doha. The outbound return sector ultimately arrived in Doha with a delay of about two and a half hours.

Qatar Airways emphasized that the crew followed established safety procedures and that the decision to conduct a go-around was made to ensure the highest level of operational safety.
