Pilot Killed As Cirrus SR-20 Crashes Into Ohio Home Moments After Takeoff, Sparking Massive Fire

A tragic aviation accident occurred in Scioto County, Ohio, on June 11 when a 2006 Cirrus SR-20 single-engine aircraft crashed into a residence shortly after departing from Greater Portsmouth Regional Airport.

Authorities identified the pilot as Kurt W. Paulus, 76, of Delaware, Ohio, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft. The plane was in its initial climb after takeoff when it lost control and crashed into a home on Bennett School House Road, sparking a massive fire that destroyed the residence.

Fortunately, two people who were inside the home escaped without injuries. Paulus was pronounced dead at the scene.

The FAA and NTSB have launched investigations, with the NTSB leading efforts to determine what caused the deadly crash.
