A China West Airlines domestic flight from Chongqing to Sanya was forced to return to its departure airport on January 1, 2026, after the flight crew received a warning indicating a mechanical issue shortly after takeoff.
Flight PN6213 was operated by an Airbus A321-200 registered B-321R and was carrying 230 people on board. The aircraft departed Chongqing from runway 03L and was climbing normally when the crew stopped the ascent at approximately 6,900 meters, corresponding to flight level 226.
Following the warning, the crew elected to return to Chongqing as a precaution. The aircraft remained airborne for about an hour before landing safely on runway 03R. No injuries were reported, and the landing was completed without further incident.
Passengers later stated that they had not noticed any abnormalities during the flight until the crew announced that there was an issue with the aircraft, followed by information about a mechanical problem.
China West Airlines confirmed that the diversion was prompted by a warning indication received by the crew while climbing through around 7,000 meters. The airline emphasized that the decision to return was made in accordance with safety procedures to ensure the well-being of all passengers and crew.
