Flight Instructor Killed After Cessna 152 Crashes Into Utility Pole During Training Flight in Italy
VALBREMBO, ITALY — June 2, 2026: A routine flight training exercise ended in tragedy after a Cessna 152 aircraft crashed into a utility pole and burst into wreckage near a roadway in Valbrembo, northern Italy, killing a young flight instructor and critically injuring his teenage student.
Authorities identified the deceased instructor as 26-year-old Daniel Taino, who was conducting a training session with a 19-year-old student pilot at the time of the accident. According to witnesses, the aircraft suddenly descended at low altitude before striking a power pole and crashing near residential buildings.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after reports of a loud impact and smoke rising from the wreckage. Local witnesses said the student pilot was heard screaming for help while trapped inside the damaged aircraft before rescue crews managed to pull him free. He was transported to Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo with serious injuries.
Investigators believe the aircraft was performing touch-and-go maneuvers shortly before the crash. Early reports indicate a possible technical or engine-related issue may have occurred moments before impact, though officials have not confirmed a cause.
The crash has shocked Italy’s aviation community, with tributes pouring in for Taino, who had recently fulfilled his dream of becoming a certified flight instructor.
