An EasyJet Airbus A321neo flying from Heraklion to Manchester was forced to divert to Milan Malpensa after the first officer reportedly became medically incapacitated while cruising at 34,000 feet.
The captain declared the diversion about 80 nautical miles northeast of Milan and safely landed the aircraft just 25 minutes later. Medical teams met the aircraft on arrival while passengers were provided hotels and meals overnight before continuing their journey the next morning.
The incident highlights how critical cockpit resource management and pilot training are during in-flight medical emergencies — especially on long international sectors.
