A Malaysia Airlines domestic flight scheduled to operate from Alor Setar to Kuala Lumpur was disrupted on December 30, 2025, after the aircraft experienced a tire failure while preparing for departure.
Flight MH1209 was operated by a Boeing 737-800 registered 9M-MXH. While the aircraft was backtracking runway 04 at Alor Setar Airport and turning around to line up for departure, it came to a stop on the runway.
Malaysia’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAM) later confirmed that the aircraft had suffered a burst tire during the departure preparations. As a precaution, all passengers and crew disembarked safely, and no injuries were reported.
The incident resulted in the temporary closure of runway 04 for approximately three hours while the aircraft was secured and recovery operations were carried out, causing disruptions to airport operations.
As of about nine hours after the incident, the Boeing 737 remains on the ground at Alor Setar while inspections and maintenance continue. Malaysia Airlines stated that the situation was handled in accordance with safety procedures, emphasizing that passenger safety remained the airline’s top priority.
