Runway Drama in Kabul: Ariana Afghan Jet Veers Off After Landing, Passengers Evacuated

On Mar 25th 2026, an Ariana Afghan Airlines Boeing 737-400, registration YA-PIC, operating flight FG-252 from Herat to Kabul, was involved in a runway excursion after landing in Kabul.

The aircraft touched down on runway 29 but soon veered to the right during the landing roll. It subsequently departed the paved surface, crossed a taxiway, and came to a stop on soft ground adjacent to the runway.

Emergency procedures were promptly initiated, and passengers were evacuated using the aircraft’s emergency slides. Despite the dramatic sequence of events, there were no injuries reported among those on board.

However, the aircraft sustained damage to its left-hand wing, indicating the force of the excursion as it left the runway environment.

Weather conditions at the time remain unclear, as no meteorological data were available for Kabul.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns around runway excursions, one of the most common types of aviation incidents, often influenced by a combination of environmental conditions, aircraft handling, and surface factors. Investigations are expected to determine the precise cause of the deviation and assess contributing elements behind the event.
