On Feb 15th 2026, a LATAM Brasil Boeing 777-300, registration PT-MUH, rejected its takeoff at high speed in São Paulo after an attempted rotation.
Flight LA-8146 was departing São Paulo Guarulhos for Lisbon and accelerating along runway 09L when the crew initiated rotation. The nose gear reportedly lifted slightly off the runway surface, but the aircraft did not become airborne. At approximately 174 knots over ground, the pilots rejected the takeoff.
The 777 decelerated safely and vacated the runway at the far end before coming to a stop on the parallel taxiway. Airport emergency services responded as a precaution.
Passengers disembarked via stairs directly onto the taxiway and were transported back to the terminal area. There were no reports of injuries.
High-speed rejected takeoffs close to or above decision speed are rare and demand precise crew coordination and aircraft performance management. Such events typically occur only when flight crews determine that continuing the takeoff would pose a greater risk than stopping on the remaining runway. The safe outcome in this case reflects both the aircraft’s braking capability and the crew’s adherence to established procedures during one of the most critical phases of flight.
