Jan 13th 2026 : A Wizz Air Malta Airbus A320-200 experienced a runway excursion after landing at Sibiu International Airport, Romania, but was able to return to service later the same day.
The aircraft, registered 9H-WZR, was operating flight W4-3830 from Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY) to Sibiu (SBZ). The flight landed normally on runway 27 and decelerated without incident.
After touchdown and rollout, the crew attempted to turn the aircraft around to backtrack the runway toward the apron. During this maneuver, and well short of the designated turnpad at the runway end, the aircraft deviated beyond the southern edge of the runway, becoming temporarily disabled.
Airport authorities reported that the occurrence happened during heavy snowfall, which affected runway conditions. Ground crews responded promptly, assisting the aircraft and coordinating its recovery. After approximately 40 minutes, the A320 was able to taxi under its own power to the apron, guided by airport personnel.
No injuries were reported among passengers or crew, and there was no immediate indication of significant aircraft damage.
Following checks on the apron, the aircraft resumed service about 2.5 hours after landing, minimizing operational disruption.
The airport described the event as an operational incident related to adverse winter weather, underlining the challenges posed by snow-covered runways during ground maneuvering operations.
