Qantas A380 Rejects Takeoff in Sydney Due to Instrumentation Issue

A Qantas Airbus A380 operating flight QF1 from Sydney to Singapore experienced a rejected takeoff on January 4, 2026, after the flight crew identified a technical issue during the takeoff roll.

The aircraft, registered VH-OQB, was accelerating along Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport’s runway 16R when the crew aborted the takeoff at approximately 80 knots groundspeed. The aircraft slowed safely and vacated the runway without further incident before returning to the apron.

According to passenger accounts, travelers were later disembarked at the gate and informed that the rejection was due to a technical problem related to aircraft instrumentation. No injuries were reported.

After maintenance checks and corrective actions were completed, the Airbus A380 was cleared to return to service. The aircraft departed Sydney roughly five hours later and continued to Singapore without further issues.

Flight QF1 ultimately arrived in Singapore with a delay of approximately five hours and twenty minutes. Qantas emphasized that the rejected takeoff was conducted in line with standard safety procedures and that the crew acted appropriately to ensure passenger safety.
