Feathers in the Climb: Fly2Sky A320 Struck by Bird After Takeoff from Asaba

On Feb 14th 2026, a Fly2Sky Airbus A320-200, registration LZ-FSJ, sustained a bird strike shortly after departure from Asaba, Nigeria, but continued to Lagos for a safe landing.

The aircraft was operating flight UN-523 from Asaba to Lagos when the strike occurred during the initial climb. Despite the impact, the crew assessed the aircraft’s condition and elected to proceed to destination. The flight landed safely in Lagos without further incident.

Following arrival, the airline reported that the aircraft would need to be withdrawn from service for inspection and necessary maintenance. Bird strikes can result in damage to engines, radomes, windshields, or wing leading edges, depending on the point of impact and the size of the bird.

As of approximately 25 hours after landing, the aircraft remained on the ground in Lagos undergoing technical evaluation.

Bird strikes remain a persistent operational hazard, particularly during takeoff and landing phases when aircraft operate at lower altitudes where bird activity is more common. In this case, the crew’s ability to safely continue and complete the flight underscores established procedures for post-impact assessment and risk management.
